Seating charts that take five minutes, not five evenings

Paste a list of names, lay out the room, tell SeatSort who must sit apart, and get a finished plan you can print or share. Building and auto-assigning are free, with no account.

Free to build, rearrange and reshuffle. An account only when you want to print it.

Keep apart

Greta is at table One, Hans at table Two. Reshuffle as often as you like: they never meet.

Two rooms, one editor

Seating a wedding and seating a math class look like different jobs, but the hard part is the same: a list of people, a fixed number of seats, and a handful of pairs that must not end up next to each other. SeatSort handles both, and the editor changes shape depending on which one you pick.

Weddings, receptions, galas, banquets and concerts

Classrooms, labs, exam halls and music rehearsals

Event mode gives you round and rectangular tables, a head table that never gets shuffled, and family groups that travel together. Classroom mode gives you desks in rows, pairs and U shapes, plus a front row you can reserve for the students who need it.

Step one

How it works, in three steps

Nothing here needs training. If you can paste a column out of a spreadsheet, you can finish a plan in one sitting.

  • Paste your names. One per line, straight from a spreadsheet, an RSVP export or a class list. Groups and notes come along if you have them.
  • Lay out the room. Drag tables or desks until the plan matches the actual floor. Start from a template if you would rather not begin with an empty canvas.
  • Add rules and press assign. Keep these two apart, seat this family together, put this student in the front row. SeatSort fills every seat and tells you which rules it could not satisfy.

The rules are the whole point

Any tool can scatter names across tables. What takes the evening is the second pass, where you remember that two guests are not speaking and that one student cannot see the board from the back.

Write those constraints down once and they hold through every reshuffle. Change the room, add six late RSVPs, press assign again, and the constraints are still there. When a rule cannot be honored, SeatSort says so instead of quietly breaking it.

Reshuffle as often as you like. The rules hold.

What you print, and hand out

Every chart becomes paper: a card for each table that stands where the guests arrive, or one list for the wall. Both without a watermark, in A4 or US Letter.

A card for every table

The Celebration design prints one page per table, so nothing has to be cut up with scissors on the morning of the wedding.

One list for the class

The Classroom design keeps everybody on one sheet, with the seat numbers beside the names, ready for the wall by the door.

Your guests find their own seats

Print one code and put it at the door. Nobody has to crowd around a seating board, and nobody has to ask you where they are sitting.

  1. 1

    They scan the code

One QR on an easel at the entrance, or printed on the menu. No app, no account, nothing to install.

  2. 2

    They type their name

A single box. It forgives a missing accent and a surname spelled the way their aunt spells it.

  3. 3

    They see their table

Their table and who else is on it, on their own phone, in the language they are reading.

Free to build, paid to keep

Creating a chart, editing it and running the auto-assign cost nothing and need no account. You can do the entire job, look at the result, and walk away.

Prices in US dollars. In German the same plans are billed in euros.

See what each plan includes

Start from a template or from nothing

Six starting points cover most rooms: a hundred guests on round tables, fifty on rectangular tables, twenty-four desks in pairs, thirty desks in rows, a classroom U shape, and a band and orchestra layout with sections. Each one opens in the editor as an ordinary chart, so you can move, delete and rename anything in it.

Questions people ask

Do I need an account to make a seating chart?

No. Creating a chart, editing it and auto-assigning seats work without signing up. You only need an account when you want to save the chart to the cloud, export it without a watermark or share a guest link.

How many guests or students can I seat?

The editor is comfortable up to a few hundred people, which covers almost every wedding, banquet and school hall. Very large venues will work but the canvas gets busy.

Can I use it for both my classroom and a private event?

Yes, they are the same editor in two modes. A teacher subscription and an event pass are separate purchases, because they solve different problems and are priced differently.

What happens to my chart if I do not pay?

It lives in your browser. Clear your site data or switch to another device and it is gone. Saving to the cloud is one of the things payment unlocks.

Can I print the plan?

Yes. Exports are made for printing, and the paid export has no watermark across it.

Does it work in another language?

Yes, in English and German, with German URLs as well as German text.
